Programs Our comprehensive 10-course forensic curriculum positions the School of Accountancy as a national leader in forensic accounting education. The curriculum provides graduates with the knowledge and skills they will need to uncover crimes such as securities fraud, tax scams, embezzlement and money laundering. Integrating accounting, law, auditing, and investigative skills in a unique curriculum, our students will develop a distinctive set of accounting knowledge, skills, and abilities that will be highly sought after in the new business environment. Both programs make extensive use of field trips, guest speakers, and practitioners who are experts in their fields. The Georgia Southern University forensic accounting curriculum is offered in two tracks. The undergraduate track enables students from all majors to complete a minor in fraud examination.This track is for students aspiring to become future fraud investigators. Because of their understanding of criminal law and the criminal justice system and their detailed training in asset fraud detection and prevention, graduates of this program will be ready for careers in federal, state, and local governments as law enforcement officers, treasury agents, and governmental auditors, for example and for jobs in the private sector as internal auditors, loss prevention specialists, corporate security specialists, private investigators, and fraud control specialists. View the Fraud Examination Track. The Forensic Accounting track is designed for students aspiring to become future forensic accountants. Students in this track will complete the undergraduate fraud examination curriculum plus an additional twelve semester hours of advanced training as part of our graduate accounting program. Graduates of this track will be trained to investigate asset theft as well as financial statement fraud. In addition, they will be prepared to provide litigation support including serving as testifying experts in court. Students will also complete a forensic practicum such as an internship, an actual consulting project, or senior thesis to demonstrate a growing mastery of their forensic skills. Information For Transfer Students A Prerequisite for admission to the Georgia Southern University graduate-level forensic accounting program is completion of the following five courses, which make up the undergraduate minor in fraud examination:
To accommodate those students who completed their undergraduate accounting degrees at other institutions, the above five courses are offered each summer, beginning in mid-May and ending in mid-July. Accordingly, a transfer student can complete all five of the required undergraduate courses during the summer and then be admitted into the graduate-level forensic accounting program for the fall. Transfer students can receive credit for having taken courses equivalent to any of the above five courses. Transfer credit decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis and will be based on:
